Everyone should read the forty-five page federal indictment against former President Donald Trump. I will even float the idea that it is one’s patriotic duty to do so. It might be, like in wartime, patriotism that is critical to the survival of our democracy.
Those who would want to defend the ex-president, especially should read it, in order to become aware of the charges being levied against him. Do this, if for no other reason, than to generate empathy for his cause and possibly provide help with his defense through truthful and civil discourse and prayer. Plus, one might find real evidence of a “witch-hunt”, which could be identified and then shared with the public, thus putting an end to so much madness.
The indictment explains all the charges, the reasoning behind them, and how they came to be.
Ultimately twelve citizens approved and chosen by the prosecuting and defense attorneys will decide whether the charges have merit or not. I am quite certain that some of those who will be sitting on that jury will have voted for Mr. Trump and quite likely there will be some who would vote for him again.
It is the prosecutor’s challenge to convince the jury just how the ex president committed crimes against everyone. The indictment states that he broke laws which provide foundational support to our democracy. (Reminder: democracy is the only political idea in the universe that values each and every person as being worthy of respect. Anything less than this initiates tyranny in one way or another)
It is the defense attorney’s job to convince each member of the jury how the charges have no merit.

It is vital to know what is happening at the fundamental level of our democratic republic. One thing is for certain, democracy’s survival is not guaranteed and its only weapon of defense and protection of lasting worth is awareness.
